The Ramp, it is commonly described by critics and former members as a highly controlling, high-pressure ministry based in Hamilton, Alabama, founded by Karen Wheaton, with a school of ministry that some former participants explicitly label a cult. Accounts from ex-members describe intense emotional manipulation using themes of sin, shame, and fear of damnation, along with strong pressure to give sacrificial financial offerings and to prioritize the ministry over family and outside relationships. More recent reporting has also documented serious leadership failures, including the firing of the founder’s son‑in‑law from a leadership role after he admitted to sexually abusing minors, which has intensified public scrutiny of the culture and oversight at The Ramp.
This is the story of Rod Diaz, how he joined and escaped the cult known as the Ramp

Christian life coach and author Amanda K. Stout shares the story behind writing her book The Awakening, a heartfelt message for believers who feel exhausted by religion yet still long for real freedom in Christ. She talks about how God led her through her own season of overwhelm and confusion, and how that journey awakened her to the difference between performing for God and actually walking in His grace. During the conversation she unpacks key themes from the book—aligning belief and behavior, embracing truth without losing love, and stepping out of fear-based faith into a more honest, Spirit-led relationship with Jesus. By the end of the episode, listeners are invited to see “awakening” not as a one-time moment but as an ongoing process of letting God realign their heart, identity, and daily life with His truth and freedom.

In this imagined episode of The Free at Last Podcast, Mick and Tami open by sharing that, after 20‑plus years of marriage and over a decade in ministry, they’ve watched many Christian couples drift into trouble not through one big crisis, but through a series of small, unaddressed issues. They frame the conversation around the idea that “revival in households” has to start with honesty about what’s really going wrong between husbands and wives, not just better church involvement.

AJ Justice joins us to share how Jesus rescued him from years of bondage to drugs and the destructive lifestyle that came with it. He recalls a childhood marked by hurt and bad influences, early experimentation that spiraled into full-blown addiction, and the lies he believed about himself—that he was too far gone, too broken, and beyond God’s reach. AJ walks listeners through the lowest points: broken relationships, run-ins with the law, and moments when he genuinely did not care whether he lived or died, until one desperate night when he finally cried out to Jesus for help.

In this episode of The Free at Last Podcast, Mick and Tami open with Proverbs 4:23, reminding listeners that everything in life flows from the condition of the heart. They explain what they mean by a “religious spirit”: a mindset that looks spiritual on the outside but is fueled by pride, performance, and control rather than a real relationship with Jesus. Drawing from stories in their own ministry and conversations with people who have come out of legalistic or high‑control church environments, they show how a religious spirit can twist good things—like Bible reading, serving, or church attendance—into ways of earning God’s approval instead of responding to His grace.
